What should you know about sun damaged skin under eyes?

Sun-damaged skin under the eyes may appear dry, finely wrinkled, uneven in tone, or more lax; daily UV protection and a clinician’s assessment of changing marks can help guide care. The lower eyelid is delicate, so products made for the eye area should be used carefully and kept out of the eye itself.

Repeated ultraviolet exposure can contribute to fine lines, rough or dry texture, reduced firmness, and uneven colouring beneath the eyes. Seek urgent help for sudden swelling with eye pain, vision changes, or a severe reaction after applying a product. A clinician may examine the skin closely and decide whether testing is needed.

Do not assume every dark area is sun damage. Basal cell carcinoma can occur on sun-exposed facial skin and may resemble a persistent sore, shiny bump, or scaly patch, so a changing lesion deserves an examination.
