What should you know about suggestive of fibroadenoma?

A fibroadenoma is a breast lump made from glandular and fibrous tissue. It often feels smooth, firm and mobile, but touch alone cannot identify its nature. “Suggestive of” means the imaging appearance fits fibroadenoma; it does not replace a clinician’s assessment. Breast Ultrasound may help describe the lump’s shape and internal features. A new or changing lump should be reviewed even when it seems typical of fibroadenoma.

Arrange follow-up with a breast clinician and take the imaging report with you. The team may recommend observation with planned review, repeat imaging or a Breast Biopsy when tissue confirmation is appropriate. A Breast Lump Excision may be discussed if the lump grows, causes symptoms, remains uncertain or you prefer removal after weighing the procedure’s effects. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, medicines and any family history that is relevant.

Contact a clinician promptly for a lump that is rapidly changing, skin dimpling, new nipple inversion, bloody discharge, persistent one-sided swelling or enlarged nodes in the armpit. Seek urgent care for severe infection-like symptoms such as spreading redness, marked swelling, fever or feeling acutely unwell.

Ask what features make the lump look like a fibroadenoma, whether tissue sampling is advised, how it will be monitored, and what changes should trigger an earlier review.
