Sudocrem on nappy rash: what to know

Nappy rash is a general term for inflammation in the covered area. Wetness, stool, rubbing, tight nappies, diarrhoea, and new cleansing products can all irritate the skin. Sudocrem is designed to sit as a protective layer, which can be useful when the main problem is exposure and friction. It will not address a bacterial infection, allergy, or yeast-related rash by itself.

Replace nappies often and clean with water or a mild fragrance-free product. Let the skin dry fully, then apply a light, smooth layer without scrubbing the sore area. Use a comfortable nappy fit and allow brief supervised air exposure. Do not put cream inside the anus, vagina, or urethra. If the rash reaches the folds, develops satellite spots, or persists despite these measures, ask a clinician whether Emollient Therapy or Topical Antifungal Treatment is more suitable.

Get medical advice for broken skin, pus, blisters, bleeding, marked swelling, or pain that makes changes difficult. Fever, lethargy, poor feeding, or a rash spreading beyond the nappy area warrants prompt assessment. Arrange a review if the skin is not improving or if episodes repeatedly return.
