Sudocrem for nappy rash treatment: what to know

Nappy rash often reflects moisture, contact with urine or stool, rubbing, or a change in products. A barrier cream can shield irritated skin while it heals. A bright red rash that involves skin folds, has small surrounding spots, or keeps returning may suggest yeast rather than simple irritation. The appearance alone cannot confirm the cause, so avoid adding multiple medicated products without advice.

Change wet or soiled nappies promptly, rinse gently with lukewarm water or use fragrance-free wipes, and pat the area dry. Apply a thin, even layer of Sudocrem to clean, dry, external skin if it suits the child. Give supervised nappy-free time when practical and avoid talc, fragranced products, and vigorous rubbing. If the rash is not settling, a clinician may recommend Emollient Therapy or Topical Antifungal Treatment according to the cause.

Contact a clinician if the rash is spreading, blistered, bleeding, oozing, very painful, or associated with fever. Arrange advice when it does not begin to improve with careful nappy care, or when the baby seems unusually unsettled during changes. Urgent assessment is appropriate if the child appears seriously unwell or the skin becomes rapidly swollen.
