Sudocrem for a fungal rash: what to know

A fungal rash may be red, itchy, scaly, moist, or ring-shaped, depending on its location and cause. Sudocrem forms a protective barrier and can reduce friction, but barrier protection is different from treating fungal growth. A rash in a skin fold may also be intertrigo, while similar-looking changes can occur with contact dermatitis, heat rash, psoriasis, or atopic dermatitis. Ringworm is one fungal possibility; scabies can also cause intense itching but needs a different approach.

Keep the area clean and dry, pat rather than rub after washing, and choose loose clothing that allows airflow. Avoid sharing towels, clothing, or sports equipment until the cause is clear. Use Sudocrem only as directed on intact external skin, and stop if it stings or causes a new reaction. A pharmacist or clinician can help identify whether an antifungal product is appropriate, especially if the rash is on the face, genitals, scalp, or a large area.

Arrange medical advice if the rash is spreading, painful, cracked, oozing, or not improving with suitable care. Seek prompt help for fever, marked swelling, pus, rapidly worsening redness, or involvement around the eyes. Children, people with diabetes, and anyone with a weakened immune system may need earlier assessment because skin infections can behave differently.
