Sudocrem for yeast diaper rash: what to know

A yeast-associated nappy rash often stays red in the skin folds and may have small separate spots around the main area. Moisture, warmth, friction, and recent antibiotic use can support yeast growth, although a similar appearance can come from simple irritation or another skin condition. A barrier cream reduces contact with urine, stool, and rubbing; it does not remove yeast.

Because babies’ skin can worsen quickly, a pharmacist, nurse, or doctor can check the pattern and recommend Topical Antifungal Treatment when appropriate. Emollient Therapy may support the surrounding dry or irritated skin, but should not delay review if the rash is persistent.

Change nappies frequently, rinse gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and allow short periods of air exposure when practical. Apply any prescribed or pharmacist-recommended antifungal exactly as directed. A thin protective layer may be used if advised, but avoid piling products over one another without guidance. Do not use steroid creams in the nappy area unless prescribed, because they can alter the rash and irritate delicate skin.

Get urgent help if the child appears seriously unwell, has fever with rapidly spreading redness, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or extensive blistering. Arrange prompt review for pus, open sores, bleeding, marked pain, dehydration, or a rash that fails to improve after suitable care. Newborns and children with weakened immunity should be assessed early.
