What this means

A rash is a visible change in the skin, not a single diagnosis. Redness, itching, scaling, moisture, cracking, or small bumps can arise from irritation, allergy, heat, infection, or an inflammatory condition. A thin layer of Sudocrem may reduce rubbing and protect a sore surface, yet its antiseptic and barrier ingredients are not a substitute for a treatment chosen for the underlying cause.

If the rash is itchy, spreading, scaly, ring-shaped, or affecting skin folds, possibilities include Atopic Dermatitis, Contact Dermatitis, Heat Rash, Intertrigo, Ringworm, or Scabies. A new rash after a medicine should be assessed as possible Drug Rash.

What you can do

Gently wash the area, pat it dry, and test a small amount on a limited patch first. If the skin tolerates it, apply a thin layer to intact or mildly irritated skin according to the product directions. Avoid eyes, lips, deep wounds, and areas where the product causes stinging. Stop if irritation worsens. Keep the area cool and dry, avoid fragranced products, and do not share towels when an infection is possible.

Get urgent help for a rash with breathing difficulty, facial swelling, faintness, blistering, skin peeling, or involvement of the mouth or eyes. Arrange medical review if it is rapidly spreading, painful, hot, draining, associated with fever, or not settling with gentle care. A clinician can examine its pattern and decide whether testing or a targeted treatment is needed.
