What should you know about sudden itchy rash on lower back?

A band or area matching a waistband, clothing dye, adhesive, or laundry product can suggest Contact Dermatitis. Sweat and friction may contribute to Heat Rash or Intertrigo. A circular, scaly edge that gradually expands needs assessment for Ringworm. Atopic Dermatitis or Psoriasis may produce dry, scaly, inflamed areas. Scabies can cause marked itch, often worse at night, with spots elsewhere or symptoms in close contacts. A medicine-related eruption can be widespread rather than limited to the back.

Change out of sweaty clothing, rinse gently, and dry by patting rather than rubbing. Choose loose cotton or other breathable layers and pause new detergents, body products, and adhesive patches. Apply a cool compress for short periods and use a fragrance-free moisturiser if the skin is dry and unbroken. Do not share towels or bedding, and avoid scratching.
