What should you know about sudden heat rash all over body?

When sweat ducts become blocked across several warm or covered areas, small red bumps, prickling, and itch may occur on the trunk, neck, limbs, or folds. Heat, humidity, fever, close-fitting clothing, and prolonged bed rest can contribute. A rash across much of the body may also be a different skin rash or reaction, particularly if it is not linked to heat, has marked swelling, or changes quickly. The pattern, timing, texture, and associated symptoms help a clinician sort these possibilities.

Go somewhere cool, loosen or remove damp clothing, and rinse or gently wash sweat from the skin. Pat dry and choose light, breathable layers. A cool compress can calm prickling; avoid ice directly on the skin. Stop new fragranced products and avoid thick occlusive creams until a clinician advises otherwise. Drink fluids if you have been sweating, unless a health professional has told you to restrict them. Keep a note of recent heat exposure, fever, medicines, and products.

Contact a clinician promptly if a widespread rash persists after cooling, becomes tender, develops pus or blisters, or comes with fever or feeling unwell. Seek emergency help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, confusion, collapse, or a rapidly spreading blistering or peeling rash. Extensive skin involvement can require examination even when heat seems to be the trigger.

Ask whether the distribution fits heat rash, whether a medicine or infection could explain it, and what skin products are safe while it settles. Tell the clinician where it started, how quickly it spread, whether sweat or fever came first, and whether you have pain, swelling, breathing symptoms, or mouth and eye involvement.
