What should you know about sudden heat rash?

Short answer
Sudden heat rash usually reflects trapped sweat irritating the skin, so cooling, drying, and reducing friction are sensible first steps.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What sudden heat rash can mean
Heat rash, also called prickly heat or miliaria, can produce tiny red bumps, clear fluid-filled spots, itching, or a prickling sensation. It often appears where sweat collects or clothing rubs, such as the neck, chest, back, waist, or skin folds. Heat and humidity can block sweat ducts; the leaked sweat then irritates nearby skin. A rash can resemble other forms of skin rash, redness, or bumps, so its appearance alone does not confirm the cause.
What to do now
Move to a cooler area and let the skin dry. Wear loose, breathable clothing and pause strenuous activity until the irritation settles. Use a cool, damp cloth briefly, then pat rather than rub. Keep affected folds clean and dry, and avoid heavy ointments, fragranced products, and scratching because they may increase blockage or irritation. A clinician can advise whether an emollient or a short course of a topical corticosteroid is suitable for persistent inflammation.
When to seek care
Arrange medical advice if the rash is spreading, very painful, warm, oozing, associated with fever, or not improving after cooling and avoiding sweat. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, faintness, facial or tongue swelling, rapidly worsening illness, or widespread blistering. These features may point away from uncomplicated heat rash and need prompt assessment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what features distinguish heat rash from infection, eczema, or an allergic reaction; whether any product or medicine could be irritating your skin; and which treatment is appropriate for the body area involved. Mention when the rash began, heat or exercise exposure, new products, and whether it itches, hurts, leaks, or recurs.
