What should you know about submental artery chin filler?

The submental artery supplies tissues beneath the chin and can vary in its course between people. A filler needle or cannula placed near a vessel may enter it, compress it, or allow product to obstruct blood flow. This is an uncommon but serious complication, distinct from expected swelling or bruising.

Chin filler may be used to adjust projection, length, or the transition between the lower lip and chin. The safest plan depends on your anatomy, previous filler or surgery, skin condition, and the injector's ability to recognise and manage complications.

Use a licensed medical injector who examines the chin and explains the product, injection plane, alternatives, and emergency plan. Tell them about previous injections, operations, allergies, medicines, and any current skin infection. A clear plan should include follow-up contact.

Afterward, follow the clinic's instructions and avoid manipulating the area unless directed. Mild tenderness, bruising, or swelling can occur. Do not wait for a routine appointment if symptoms are severe, unusual, or worsening.

Contact the injector urgently for increasing pain, pale or grey skin, mottled colour, cool skin, or blisters near the treated area. Seek emergency help for vision change or loss, severe headache, weakness, confusion, or trouble speaking. Breathing difficulty or marked facial swelling is also an emergency.
