A rough, red rash can occur with a throat infection caused by group A streptococcus, often alongside a sore throat, fever, or swollen neck glands. The rash may begin on the chest or trunk and spread, but appearance alone cannot confirm the cause. A clinician may examine the throat and skin and use a throat test when appropriate.
