Strawberry legs and ingrown hairs: what to know

Small dark dots may become more noticeable after shaving when hair follicles contain oil, keratin, or a little dried blood. Ingrown hairs can produce a tender bump, itch, or visible hair beneath the surface. Folliculitis can resemble this pattern when follicles become inflamed. Keratosis pilaris tends to cause many rough, persistent bumps, whereas razor bumps are closely related to hair removal and curved hairs.

Pause shaving or waxing while painful bumps settle. Wash gently, avoid picking, and use a clean, sharp razor with shaving gel when you resume. Shave in the direction of growth and avoid repeated passes over the same area.
