How to stop a shaving rash on the bikini line

The bikini line experiences close shaving, sweat, underwear friction, and contact with cleansers or scented products. A short-lived red, stinging rash can follow barrier irritation. Itch, scaling, a ring-shaped edge, clustered bumps, sores, or discharge may suggest a different cause such as contact dermatitis, intertrigo, ringworm, scabies, or another skin condition. The timing after shaving is useful, but it does not identify the diagnosis by itself.

Stop shaving and waxing while the rash is active. Rinse gently, pat dry, choose loose breathable underwear, and change after sweating. Avoid scrubs, deodorising sprays, perfumes, antiseptics, and scratching. A cool compress may ease stinging. Do not apply medication inside the vagina or on broken skin unless a clinician directs you. When healed, soften hair, use a bland shaving product, shave with the grain using light pressure, and avoid repeated passes.

Arrange an examination if the rash persists, returns with each shave, spreads, or develops scaling, blisters, sores, or marked itch. Seek prompt care for fever, rapidly increasing redness or swelling, severe pain, pus, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Genital pain or discharge also needs appropriate clinical assessment.
