Stomach itching as a pregnancy symptom

As the abdomen grows, the skin can feel tight, dry, and itchy, sometimes without a visible rash. Sweat, heat, friction from clothing, or a new soap can add irritation. Itching can also occur away from the stomach. Pregnancy-related itching that is intense, persistent, or prominent on the palms and soles deserves prompt clinical review because some causes are not limited to the skin.

Use a bland, fragrance-free moisturiser several times daily, especially after a lukewarm shower. Choose loose cotton clothing, keep the room cool, and pat rather than scratch. Avoid new fragranced products and hot water. Keep nails short and note whether the itch has a rash, where it spreads, when it worsens, and any new medicine or product exposure. Contact your maternity team promptly for severe or worsening itch, itch without a rash that affects sleep, or itching on the palms or soles. Seek urgent help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, blistering, fever, or a rapidly spreading rash. Do not wait for a rash to appear if the itching is intense.
