Stomach fat to buttocks: what to know

Fat transfer uses liposuction to collect fat from a donor area such as the abdomen, processes it, and places it into selected buttock areas. The aim is to improve contour using your own tissue. The amount available depends on your body shape and the quality of the donor fat; not every person has enough suitable tissue. Some transferred fat may be reabsorbed, so the final contour can differ from the early postoperative appearance. This is a surgical procedure with risks including bleeding, infection, contour irregularity, anaesthetic problems and serious complications if fat enters a blood vessel.

Have a consultation with a properly qualified plastic surgeon in an accredited facility. Discuss your goals, donor and recipient areas, technique, medical conditions, smoking, medicines and previous operations. Request a clear recovery plan, including how to protect the buttocks from pressure and when normal activities can resume. Follow wound-care and compression instructions exactly, attend follow-up visits, and arrange help for the early recovery period. Do not choose a plan based only on a photograph or a promised shape.

Contact your surgical team promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, wound drainage, persistent vomiting or one-sided swelling. Seek emergency help for sudden breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, confusion or a new rapid heartbeat. A painful, pale, dark or blistered area also needs urgent assessment.
