What should you know about Stevens-Johnson syndrome on the feet?

The feet may show painful red or dusky patches, blisters, raw skin, or peeling during a wider skin reaction. The soles can become especially tender, making walking difficult. Foot findings by themselves do not diagnose Stevens-Johnson syndrome; the pattern matters, including fever, feeling unwell, rapid spread, and sores in the mouth, eyes, or genital area. A medicine reaction is a common trigger.

Seek emergency care rather than trying to manage suspected blistering or peeling at home. Keep the feet clean and protected with a loose, non-stick covering if needed, and avoid friction, tight footwear, and creams that sting. Take medicine packaging or a current list, including recent products. Do not restart a suspected medicine unless instructed by a clinician.

Get urgent help for rapidly worsening foot pain, spreading blisters, peeling skin, inability to walk, fever, dehydration, breathing trouble, eye pain, or mouth sores that make drinking difficult. Emergency assessment is needed even if the changes began only on the feet.

Ask whether the foot changes fit a severe medicine reaction, how to protect damaged skin, whether your eyes and mouth need review, and which medicines should be recorded as possible triggers.
