Steps of Embryo Transfer in Cattle: What to Know

In a typical treatment cycle, the clinic reviews your history and chooses whether to use a natural cycle or medicines to coordinate the uterine lining. Ultrasound may track follicle development and lining thickness. If medication is used, progesterone may support the lining after ovulation or transfer.

A laboratory specialist prepares the embryo for transfer. During the procedure, a clinician guides a thin catheter through the cervix into the uterus and releases the embryo. The procedure is usually brief, although cramping or light spotting can occur. Pregnancy testing is arranged after the transfer, followed by an ultrasound if the test is positive.

Take prescribed medicines at the times given and tell the clinic about every medicine or supplement you use. Follow the clinic's instructions about eating, drinking and arriving with a comfortably full bladder. Afterward, normal gentle activity is commonly possible, but follow individual advice about strenuous exercise, intercourse and travel.

Use the planned pregnancy test rather than testing very early, because fertility medicines can affect results. Continue prescribed support until the clinic tells you what to do, even if you notice spotting.

Seek urgent medical help for severe or worsening pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, marked abdominal swelling, breathing difficulty or fever. Contact the fertility team promptly for persistent pain, bleeding that concerns you, or a positive pregnancy test with one-sided pain, because these symptoms need assessment.

Ask which cycle plan is being used, how the lining will be assessed, which medicines to continue, when to test, and which symptoms should prompt a call. You can also ask what happens to any embryos not transferred and when follow-up imaging is planned.
