What should you know about spotting then period then spotting again?

Bleeding can become irregular after a hormone change, missed contraception, stress, illness, or around ovulation. A sexually transmitted infection such as Chlamydia may inflame the cervix. Endometrial Polyps or Uterine Fibroids can interrupt the usual flow and cause bleeding at more than one point in a cycle. Cervical Dysplasia, Cervical Cancer, and Womb Cancer are less common possibilities that need clinical evaluation. The sequence cannot identify its cause by itself.

The clinician will want the dates and character of each episode, whether the middle bleed was typical for you, and whether there was pain, discharge, bleeding after sex, or a chance of pregnancy. Testing is chosen from that history.

Keep a simple bleeding diary with start and stop dates, flow compared with your usual period, colour, clots, pain, and possible triggers. Review contraception instructions if pills were missed, and take a pregnancy test if pregnancy is possible. Arrange a routine appointment if this pattern is new, repeats, or continues outside your expected cycle.

Seek urgent help if bleeding is heavy, pain is severe or one-sided, you feel faint or unusually weak, or fever accompanies pelvic pain. Possible pregnancy plus bleeding and dizziness needs prompt assessment.
