What should you know about spotting right after period?

Brown or light discharge immediately after flow stops can reflect older blood leaving the vagina. A new episode may instead relate to hormonal contraception, ovulation, irritation, or an infection such as Chlamydia. Endometrial Polyps and Uterine Fibroids can produce irregular bleeding. Cervical Dysplasia, Cervical Cancer, and Womb Cancer are possible medical causes that require evaluation; spotting does not tell you which one is responsible.

The distinction depends on your usual cycle, pregnancy possibility, contraception, recent sex, pain, discharge, and whether the bleeding repeats. A clinician may examine the vagina and cervix and recommend testing based on those details.

Note when your period ended and when spotting began, then record its colour and amount. Check whether it follows sex, a missed pill, or another medicine. If pregnancy is possible, take a pregnancy test according to the product instructions and tell the clinician the result. Book an appointment when spotting repeats or does not settle.

Seek urgent care if bleeding becomes heavy, you develop severe abdominal or pelvic pain, feel faint, or have fever or unusual weakness. If you may be pregnant, bleeding with pain or dizziness needs prompt assessment.
