Spotting All the Time Between Periods

Irregular ovulation, changes in hormonal contraception, missed doses, or medicines affecting clotting can disturb the lining and produce repeated spotting. Cervical irritation after sex and infections such as Chlamydia may cause bleeding with discharge, pelvic discomfort, or urinary symptoms.

Endometrial polyps and uterine fibroids can contribute to bleeding between periods. Cervical dysplasia, cervical cancer, and womb cancer can also present with abnormal bleeding. Spotting does not establish any of these diagnoses, but a persistent pattern is a reason for examination rather than repeated self-monitoring.

Book a clinician appointment and bring a record of bleeding days, amount, colour, cycle dates, sex-related triggers, contraception, medicines, and accompanying symptoms. Take a pregnancy test if pregnancy is possible. Assessment may include a pregnancy test, infection tests, a pelvic examination, cervical screening when due, blood tests, or imaging chosen for your situation.

Seek urgent care if bleeding becomes heavy, you feel faint or unusually weak, or you develop severe pelvic pain, fever, or pain with a possible pregnancy. Arrange timely review for bleeding after menopause, bleeding after sex, new pain, unusual discharge, or symptoms that are worsening.
