Spotting 2 weeks after a period

If your cycles are regular, two weeks after a period may fall near ovulation, when a short episode of light spotting can occur. Hormonal contraception, missed doses, emergency contraception, and cervical irritation after sex are other possibilities. Infection, polyps, and fibroids can cause bleeding between periods. Cervical dysplasia, cervical cancer, and womb cancer can present with abnormal bleeding; the presence of spotting does not tell you which cause applies.

Keep a simple record of cycle dates, spotting colour and amount, cramps, discharge, sex, and contraception. Consider a pregnancy test if pregnancy is possible. Make a non-urgent appointment when the bleeding returns, follows sex, continues, or differs from your normal pattern. A clinician can decide whether examination, infection testing, or imaging is useful.

Use urgent services for heavy bleeding, fainting, severe pelvic or abdominal pain, fever, or pronounced weakness. When pregnancy is possible, urgent assessment is needed for bleeding with one-sided pain, dizziness, or shoulder-tip pain.

Ask whether the timing suggests ovulation and whether your contraception or medicines may be involved. Ask if you need a pregnancy test, infection screen, cervical examination, or further assessment, and which symptoms should bring you back sooner.
