Spotting After 1 Week of Your Period: What to Know

A small amount of blood after the main flow may be related to ovulation, changing contraception, or irritation of the cervix or vagina. Infection such as Chlamydia can cause bleeding between periods, sometimes with discharge or pelvic pain. Endometrial Polyps and Uterine Fibroids can cause irregular bleeding. Cervical Dysplasia, Cervical Cancer, and Womb Cancer may present with abnormal bleeding, but this symptom alone cannot diagnose any of them.

Write down your period dates and describe spotting by colour, amount, and duration. Note whether sex, missed contraception, new medicines, pain, or discharge occurred around it. Arrange a medical review if the pattern repeats, continues, or differs from your usual cycle. Depending on your history, assessment may include pregnancy testing, an examination, infection tests, screening review, or an ultrasound.

Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, severe abdominal or pelvic pain, fainting, marked dizziness, fever, or a positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding. Use emergency services if you become suddenly weak or seriously unwell.

Ask if the bleeding could be linked to ovulation, contraception, infection, or a structural cause, and whether examination or testing is needed. Share your cycle pattern, pregnancy possibility, sexual health concerns, medicines, and screening history.
