What should you know about Spirodoc Spirometer?

The test starts with a good seal around a mouthpiece. You then follow instructions to inhale and exhale with a particular effort while the device records airflow and volume. The reading can be affected by posture, fatigue, coughing, poor seal, or an active respiratory illness. Your clinician decides whether the attempt was technically acceptable and compares the pattern with your symptoms and history.

Spirometry can support assessment of airflow problems and help track change, but it cannot explain every breathing symptom or replace a clinical consultation.

Follow the appointment instructions about inhalers and activity. Avoid rushing into the test; settle into the position advised and listen for the full breathing sequence. Give each blow your best effort without continuing if you feel unwell. Tell the operator about chest pain, dizziness, recent illness, or difficulty following the manoeuvre. Clean and store the device as directed if it is used outside a clinic.

Urgent assessment is needed for marked breathlessness, blue or grey lips, fainting, confusion, or difficulty speaking because of breathing trouble. Do not spend time repeating a home test during a severe episode. Contact your care team about persistent symptoms or repeated unexpected readings when you are otherwise stable.
