What should you know about small skin growth on face?

A growth can arise from the skin surface, a blocked gland, or inflammation beneath the skin. A tender, red lump with warmth or drainage may fit a boil. A firm or slowly enlarging lump can have several non-cancerous explanations. Basal cell carcinoma can present as a pearly or flesh-coloured area that repeatedly crusts, bleeds, or fails to heal, so the direction of change matters. A photograph, surface examination, and sometimes sampling are used when the diagnosis is uncertain.

Do not cut, burn, squeeze, or apply unlabelled products to the growth. Clean the area gently and protect it from sun with shade and suitable sunscreen. Record its size, colour, surface, symptoms, and any episodes of bleeding; a dated photograph can help show change. A clinician may observe it, treat inflammation, remove it, or recommend a steroid injection into the skin for a selected inflammatory lump.

Seek a dermatology assessment for any growth that is new and persistent, enlarges, changes shape or colour, bleeds without clear injury, forms a repeated crust, or does not heal. Prompt care is appropriate for rapidly increasing redness, severe tenderness, pus, fever, or swelling near the eye. Do not wait for pain: some concerning surface growths are not painful.
