What should you know about a small skin-coloured bump on the penile shaft?

A bump around a hair follicle may reflect folliculitis, friction, shaving, or heat. Small smooth pale bumps can have benign causes such as milia, while itch and inflammation may occur with heat rash or another dermatitis. Lichen planus can cause persistent itchy or discolored papules. These possibilities can look alike, and a penile bump is a symptom rather than a diagnosis.

Do not assume that a skin-coloured bump is sexually transmitted or harmless from appearance alone.
