Small Itchy Red Bumps on Skin That Are Spreading

A rash can extend when the trigger continues, such as a new product, heat, friction, or dry air. Atopic dermatitis and asteatotic eczema may become itchier and more widespread when the skin barrier is dry. Hives can appear in changing areas, while scabies often causes intense night itch and may affect close contacts. Contact dermatitis, psoriasis, lichen planus, and a skin yeast infection have different patterns, so colour, scale, pain, moisture, and timing are useful details.

Stop suspected new products, rinse away irritants, and moisturise with a fragrance-free cream. Keep the area cool, avoid scratching, and do not share towels or clothing until an infectious cause has been considered. Take clear photographs and note how quickly the rash changed, any new medicine, and whether someone close to you is itchy. Avoid layering several medicated creams without guidance.

Get urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, or a rash involving the eyes or mouth. Seek prompt medical assessment for fever, warmth, pus, rapidly expanding redness, or marked illness. Even without those signs, arrange review soon when the rash keeps spreading or the itch prevents sleep.

Ask whether the pattern suggests irritation, eczema, hives, scabies, or infection, whether contacts need advice, and which treatment will calm the rash without obscuring its appearance.
