The liver processes nutrients, medicines, and waste, so liver involvement can affect how the body feels and how medicines are selected. Some people have no liver-related symptoms. Others may notice tiredness, reduced appetite, discomfort under the right ribs, nausea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or swelling. These symptoms can have other causes, so assessment is needed rather than assuming their source.

Ask the oncology team what the scans show about the liver and whether other organs are involved. Blood tests can check liver function and help guide medicine choices. Chemotherapy may be discussed because it reaches cancer cells around the body; Immunotherapy may also be considered for some people. Radiotherapy can sometimes be used for a painful or troublesome area.

Seek urgent help for new confusion, severe weakness, vomiting that prevents drinking, vomiting blood, black stools, severe abdominal pain, or yellow skin with fever. Contact the cancer team promptly for worsening abdominal swelling, dark urine, pale stools, unusual bleeding, or a sudden decline in eating or alertness.
