What should you know about skin tag removal with hair?

A skin tag can arise in a hair-bearing area, and a hair may pass through or grow from it. Hair itself does not confirm that a bump is a skin tag. A clinician considers the surface, colour, shape, attachment, and recent changes before choosing removal. Shaving over the area can nick a projecting lesion and create bleeding or irritation, particularly when the tag catches on a razor or comb.

Book an examination if the tag catches during grooming, becomes irritated by clothing, or is difficult to distinguish from a mole or another growth. A clinician may use a sterile snip, electrosurgery, or cryotherapy after assessing the site. Avoid pulling the hair out by force, cutting the stalk, or applying household remedies.
