Hormonal and physical changes can make existing skin tags more noticeable or prone to rubbing, particularly in skin folds such as the neck, underarms, breasts, or groin. A new bump is not automatically a skin tag, so colour, firmness, bleeding, rapid growth, and surface changes matter. Pregnancy does not remove the need to assess a painful or unusual lesion.

Mention the growth at a prenatal or dermatology appointment, especially if it catches on clothing or becomes inflamed. If it is comfortable and typical in appearance, the clinician may suggest observing it and arranging removal after pregnancy. If treatment is needed for repeated trauma or diagnostic uncertainty, the team can choose a suitable method and coordinate with your maternity clinician. Do not cut it, tie it off, or apply acids, essential oils, or wart treatments yourself.

Arrange prompt assessment for a growth that bleeds without contact, becomes ulcerated, changes quickly, turns markedly darker, or develops increasing pain, warmth, pus, or spreading redness. Seek urgent help for heavy bleeding, fever with a worsening wound, or any severe illness. These symptoms need clinical evaluation during pregnancy rather than home treatment.
