What should you know about skin rashes on body?

Look at where the rash began, whether it is spreading, and whether the skin is dry, scaly, ring-shaped, moist, blistered, or swollen. Atopic dermatitis often causes itchy, dry, inflamed areas. Contact dermatitis can follow exposure to a product, fabric, plant, or chemical. Heat rash tends to affect sweaty or occluded areas, while intertrigo develops in skin folds. Ringworm may form an expanding scaly ring, and scabies can cause intense itching with small bumps and household spread. Psoriasis may produce thicker, sharply defined scaly plaques. A drug rash can appear after starting or changing a medicine.

Use lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry and apply a plain moisturiser. Pause newly introduced skincare, detergent, or fragranced products if they may be touching the rash. Keep folds cool and dry, avoid scratching, and take clear photographs to track change. Do not apply steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal treatment to an undiagnosed rash without suitable advice, because the wrong product can mask infection or irritate skin.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, rapidly blistering or peeling skin, or a rash involving the eyes or mouth. Arrange prompt assessment for fever, significant pain, pus, warmth, red streaks, a rapidly spreading rash, or a rash that began soon after a new medicine. A clinician can examine the distribution and skin surface and review exposures and medicines.
