Skin rash around the nose: what to know

A skin rash around the nose may reflect irritation, inflammation, infection, or a product reaction, so pattern matters. Dry scaling can follow frequent wiping or a skin flare; a sharply edged rash can follow contact with a product. Crusting, pain, or spreading redness needs medical review rather than repeated self-treatment.

Atopic Dermatitis can cause itchy, dry, inflamed skin. Contact Dermatitis may follow cosmetics, cleansers, tissues, masks, or fragrances. Intertrigo can affect moist folds beside the nostrils. Ringworm may form a slowly enlarging scaly edge, while Psoriasis can create thicker scaling. A clinician may need to inspect the area and ask about recent products.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry. Apply a simple moisturiser if the skin is dry and avoid scrubs, fragranced products, and picking. Pause newly introduced cosmetics or nasal-area products. Do not use steroid, antifungal, or antibiotic creams near the nose unless a clinician has advised that product and location.

Seek prompt care for rapidly spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, severe pain, fever, or sores near the eye. Urgent help is appropriate for facial swelling with breathing difficulty. Arrange a routine appointment if the rash persists, repeatedly returns, bleeds, or does not improve after removing an obvious irritant.
