What should you know about pityriasis versicolor?

The patches may join together across the chest, back, shoulders, or upper arms. They can be lighter, darker, pink, or tan than nearby skin, and a gentle scratch may reveal fine scaling. Itch is often mild or absent, but warmth, sweating, and humid conditions can make the pattern more noticeable. It is not the same as poor hygiene and is not usually spread by casual contact.
