What should you know about skin cancer on stomach?

Abdominal skin cancer may appear as a changing mole, a rough or scaly patch, a sore that does not heal, or a growth that crusts or bleeds. A skin lesion does not show whether there is disease inside the stomach. A clinician may inspect it closely and take a skin biopsy if its features are concerning.

Stomach cancer can present with upper-abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, early fullness, tiredness, or loss of appetite. These symptoms have many possible causes, including infection and digestive conditions, so they need clinical assessment rather than self-diagnosis.

Book an appointment for a new, enlarging, bleeding, crusted, or non-healing abdominal skin lesion. Photographing it for personal comparison and noting when it changed can help the clinician, but a photograph cannot replace examination.

If internal stomach symptoms are present, evaluation may include blood tests, a camera examination of the upper digestive tract, and tissue sampling. Confirmed stomach cancer may be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or HER2-targeted therapy depending on the tumour and the person’s health.

Seek prompt care for a skin area that changes quickly, repeatedly bleeds, becomes an open sore, or develops a firm edge. Seek urgent help for vomiting blood, black stools, severe abdominal pain, inability to keep fluids down, or faintness. These symptoms require assessment even when the cause is not cancer.

Ask whether the concern is in the skin or deeper in the abdomen, whether a biopsy or digestive investigation is needed, and what symptoms should trigger urgent review. If cancer is found, ask which tests determine treatment and whether surgery or medicines are being considered.
