SK Sport Massage: What to Know

Short answer
A sports massage session is planned around the muscles and movements used in your sport or work. The practitioner may combine broad strokes with more focused pressure to help you move comfortably and understand areas of tension. The session should be adjusted for tenderness, recent training, medications, and any diagnosed condition.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Treatment focus
- The session is shaped by your sport, movement pattern, and current symptoms.
- Safety check
- Recent injury, bruising, swelling, weakness, or calf symptoms may change the plan.
Choosing the right situation
Post-exercise soreness is usually diffuse and settles as the body recovers, whereas a muscle strain may cause local pain with stretching or contraction. A muscle contusion may follow direct impact and produce tenderness or bruising. Massage cannot tell these apart reliably on its own. Persistent or focal calf pain should not be treated as routine training tightness without considering other causes.
Making treatment safer
Before the appointment, describe the activity that triggered symptoms, the exact location, and any swelling, bruising, weakness, numbness, or change in walking. Start with a comfortable level of pressure and agree on a stop signal. Afterward, follow the therapist's advice about movement and training rather than testing the area aggressively. Myofascial release may be considered when a gentler or differently focused manual approach is preferred.
When to seek care
Get a medical assessment instead of massage for sudden severe pain, a large bruise, significant swelling, inability to use the limb normally, or progressive weakness. Urgent help is needed for a swollen, hot, or red calf with sudden breathlessness or chest pain. Do not use forceful pressure over a suspected acute tear or impact injury.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what is most likely causing the pain, whether massage is suitable now, which training movements should be paused, and what signs show that a gradual return to sport is reasonable.
