Signs you are starting menopause

As ovarian hormone production changes, periods can become unpredictable before stopping. Some people experience heat episodes, disrupted sleep, lower sexual desire, vaginal dryness, discomfort with sex, or emotional changes. Symptoms can vary in type and intensity, and a missed period can also have other explanations, including pregnancy or illness.

Track bleeding, sleep, temperature symptoms, mood, and vaginal comfort. Dress in removable layers, keep the sleeping area cool, and use a vaginal moisturiser or lubricant if appropriate. Discuss persistent symptoms with a clinician, who can review your history and explain hormonal and non-hormonal options.

Arrange an assessment for bleeding after twelve months without periods, bleeding after sex, very heavy bleeding, severe pelvic pain, or symptoms that start earlier than expected. Seek prompt help for faintness, chest pain, or sudden severe symptoms. A new vaginal bulge or pressure also needs examination because it may have another cause.
