Signs of Spinal Compression

Spinal compression happens when pressure affects the spinal cord or nearby nerves. Pain may be felt in the back or may travel around the chest or down an arm or leg. Weakness can make stairs, standing, or using the hands harder. Tingling or reduced feeling may occur in the legs or another area supplied by the affected nerves.

Seek emergency care now for rapidly worsening weakness, inability to walk, new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the inner thighs or buttocks, or severe back pain with neurological changes.
