Side Effects of Dissolving Lip Fillers

A dissolving injection commonly uses hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid filler. The lips may look smaller quickly, while inflammation or bruising can make them appear irregular for a short time. The enzyme can also affect some of the body’s natural hyaluronic acid, which may contribute to temporary dryness or a change in shape. People with previous reactions to the enzyme or its ingredients need an individual safety assessment.

Keep the area clean and avoid rubbing, pressing, strenuous exercise, heat exposure, and additional injections until the treating clinician says they are appropriate. Use only recommended products on the lips, and take photographs in similar lighting if you need to track changing swelling. Arrange the planned review because residual filler, asymmetry, or a need for further treatment cannot be judged reliably while the area is very swollen.

Contact the clinic promptly for worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus, fever, or swelling that continues to intensify. Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, throat tightness, faintness, widespread hives, or rapidly developing swelling of the tongue or face.

Ask which filler was used, what dissolving medicine and dose were given, how long swelling may last, and whether your medical or allergy history changes the plan. Ask when to restart lip products and when another cosmetic procedure could be considered.
