Shin pain in both legs: what to know

Short answer
Shin pain in both legs often follows repeated loading, but persistent or focal pain needs assessment to exclude a bone injury.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What pain in both shins can mean
Pain on both sides can occur when activity, walking, footwear, or a hard surface increases the work required of the muscles and tissues along the shin. It may feel aching and spread along the inner border, especially after exercise. Tenderness in one small spot, pain that continues at rest, swelling, or pain with hopping is more concerning for a bone stress injury. A stress fracture is one condition that can present with shin pain, so a clinician may ask about recent training, work demands, previous injuries, and changes in activity.
Other explanations include muscle overload, tendon irritation, altered walking mechanics, or less commonly a circulation or nerve problem. Both-leg symptoms do not identify one diagnosis by themselves.
What you can do now
Pause running, jumping, and other activities that reproduce the pain. Choose gentle movement only if it stays comfortable, and use supportive shoes. Cold wrapped in a cloth may ease soreness for short periods. Do not massage firmly over a sharply tender spot or return to full activity while walking still hurts. Arrange a clinical assessment if symptoms are not settling with reduced load, or sooner if the pain is localised or worsening.
When to seek care
Seek prompt medical care for severe or rapidly increasing pain, marked swelling, a cold or pale foot, new numbness or weakness, inability to bear weight, or pain after a significant injury. An assessment is also sensible when pain wakes you, appears without activity, or keeps returning after rest.
Questions to take to an appointment
Ask what pattern of pain fits muscle overload versus a bone stress injury, whether you should stop impact exercise, and which examination or imaging may help. Mention exactly when the pain began, what changed beforehand, and whether both legs feel the same.

Questions people ask
Can shin pain affect both legs?
Yes. Repeated loading or changes in movement can irritate tissues on both sides, although the cause still needs to be judged from the pattern and examination.
When should both-leg shin pain be checked?
Arrange an assessment for focal tenderness, pain at rest, difficulty bearing weight, swelling, or symptoms that do not improve after reducing impact.
