Finger stiffness, hand swelling, joint pain, joint stiffness, and morning joint stiffness may make dressing, gripping, or walking difficult. Symptoms can occur on both sides, but the pattern varies. Fatigue, reduced appetite, feverish feelings, or weight change can accompany active inflammation. Seek urgent care for a hot swollen joint with fever or feeling severely unwell, sudden loss of strength or sensation, a new chest pain or breathing problem, severe eye pain or vision change, or signs of a serious medicine reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing. Promptly contact your rheumatology team if several joints suddenly worsen or you cannot manage basic activities.
