Scalp Micropigmentation for Thinning Hair

The treatment can make sparse areas appear more shaded, particularly when hair is kept short. It does not increase hair count, thicken individual strands or stop the process causing thinning. The visual result is shaped by the pattern of loss, hair colour, skin tone, scalp texture and the chosen hairline.

A clinician should consider why the hair is thinning before cosmetic camouflage. Gradual pattern loss, sudden shedding, patchy gaps and scalp inflammation call for different assessments. Treating the underlying problem may be useful alongside, or before, SMP.

Take clear photographs of the front, temples, crown and sides, and discuss how the design would look with your usual haircut. Ask to see healed examples on a similar skin tone and hair pattern. Tell the practitioner about allergies, scarring, scalp medicines and previous tattoo or pigment reactions.

After treatment, protect the area from friction and follow instructions about washing, exercise, swimming and sun. Do not judge density while the skin is irritated or flaking. Keep follow-up appointments so the design can be checked as your hair pattern changes.

Seek clinical advice for worsening tenderness, heat, swelling, spreading redness, discharge, fever or a persistent itchy rash. Emergency care is appropriate for breathing trouble or sudden swelling of the lips, tongue or face.
