Scalp Micro Hair Pigmentation: What to Know

SMP is a cosmetic camouflage treatment, not a method for growing hair. A practitioner maps the hairline and selects pigment tones for your skin and existing hair. The appearance depends on scalp texture, hair length, skin tone and the design chosen.

It can be considered for visible thinning, a receding hairline or areas with little hair. Active scalp problems, uneven pigmentation or an evolving pattern of hair loss may need assessment before treatment.

Before booking, ask who will perform the work, which pigments and sterile equipment will be used, and how the hairline will be designed. Share any history of allergies, keloid scarring, scalp disease or previous tattoo reactions.

After each session, follow instructions about washing, sweating, swimming, sun and friction. Do not pick at flaking skin. The pigment may look darker or sharper at first and then soften as the scalp settles. A later session may be used to refine density or tone.

Ask the practitioner or a healthcare professional to assess increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, marked swelling, fever or a rash that continues to worsen. Get urgent help for trouble breathing, widespread hives or swelling of the lips or face.
