SBRT radiation for prostate cancer uses focused, image-guided radiation delivered in a small number of treatment visits. The planning team maps the prostate and nearby organs so radiation can be shaped around the intended area. Your suitability depends on the cancer features, prostate anatomy, urinary function, previous treatments, and overall health.

Before treatment, imaging helps the team position you consistently and account for movement. During each visit, you lie still while the machine delivers radiation from different angles. The treatment itself does not make you radioactive. Urinary frequency, urgency, a weaker stream, bowel changes, tiredness, or discomfort may occur during or after treatment; your team can recommend medicines and self-care measures.

SBRT is one form of radiotherapy. Other options may include brachytherapy, surgery, or a different radiation schedule. The right comparison depends on whether the cancer is confined to the prostate, how symptoms affect you, and what side effects matter most.

Bring a current medicine list and tell the team about urinary symptoms, bowel conditions, implanted devices, and previous pelvic treatment. Follow-up usually combines symptom review, examination when needed, and prostate-specific blood testing. Results are interpreted over time because the PSA level may change gradually after radiation. Ask how your team will distinguish expected changes from a finding that needs assessment.

Contact your treatment team promptly for inability to pass urine, worsening pelvic pain, blood in urine or stool, repeated vomiting, fever, or diarrhoea that does not settle. Seek urgent help for severe weakness, confusion, heavy bleeding, or breathing difficulty. Difficulty passing urine can need rapid assessment even when it occurs after a routine treatment visit.
