Sarcoidosis Skin Rash Treatment: What to Expect

A rash that resembles sarcoidosis may instead be contact dermatitis, a drug rash, heat rash, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, or another inflammatory condition. Treatment aimed at the wrong cause can irritate the skin or obscure useful findings. A clinician considers the distribution, surface, firmness, colour, symptoms, medicines, and course. A biopsy may be recommended when the diagnosis is uncertain.

The plan also depends on whether lesions are few or widespread, whether they are painful or itchy, whether they threaten scarring or visible colour change, and whether there are symptoms involving breathing, eyes, joints, or other organs.

For quiet or limited changes, a clinician may recommend observation with planned follow-up and gentle skin care. Local lesions may be treated with a prescribed steroid injection into the skin when that approach fits the site and depth. More extensive or active disease may lead to discussion of oral corticosteroid treatment or another specialist plan. Follow instructions carefully, report new symptoms, and do not change steroid treatment suddenly without medical advice. Take photographs and note itch, pain, spread, and colour change so progress can be assessed.

Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, chest pain, faintness, sudden vision change, severe eye pain, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. Contact your clinician promptly for a rapidly spreading rash, blistering, skin peeling, mouth sores, fever, pus, or severe tenderness, especially after a new medicine. These features may require a different or faster assessment.
