Short answer

A Roscoe Medical TENS and EMS muscle stimulator uses controlled electrical pulses for pain modulation or muscle activation, depending on its setting.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the device does

TENS is generally used to change how pain signals are processed, while EMS is intended to make selected muscles contract. You may feel tingling with TENS and a rhythmic tightening with EMS. The sensation should remain tolerable rather than sharp or burning. Pads need clean, intact skin and should be placed according to the device instructions or a clinician's guidance.

Using it thoughtfully

Check the model guide before connecting pads, choose the programme recommended for your goal, and begin at a low intensity. Keep the pads apart as directed and inspect the skin after use. Do not place electrodes across the front of the neck, over the head, or across the chest. Avoid using stimulation over broken, infected, numb, or irritated skin. A pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, pregnancy, epilepsy, or reduced sensation warrants medical advice before use.

When to stop and seek care

Stop the session if you develop chest symptoms, faintness, unusual shortness of breath, a new weakness, severe pain, or a persistent skin reaction. Arrange assessment if pain is worsening, follows a significant injury, or is accompanied by loss of movement or feeling. Electrical stimulation can support a plan, but it does not establish the cause of pain.

Questions for your doctor or physiotherapist

Which mode matches my goal: TENS for pain or EMS for muscle activation? Where should each pad go for my body area? What intensity and session pattern are suitable for me? Are any of my medicines, implants, or skin conditions relevant?

Questions people ask

Can TENS and EMS be used for the same problem?

They serve different purposes, so a clinician should match the mode to whether pain modulation or muscle activation is needed.

Should stimulation hurt?

It should not feel sharply painful or burning; lower the intensity or stop and check the pad position if it does.
