Right hand last two fingers numb: what to know

The ulnar nerve passes behind the inner elbow and into the hand, so leaning on the elbow or sleeping with it tightly bent can trigger symptoms. Cubital Tunnel Syndrome commonly presents with tingling or numbness in the ring and little fingers. A neck nerve irritation, including Cervical Radiculopathy, may add neck pain or symptoms travelling down the arm. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome can affect nerve or blood-vessel function between the neck and shoulder. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome usually affects a different group of fingers, but symptoms can overlap and need examination.

Avoid leaning the inner elbow on hard surfaces and change positions during sleep or desk work. Keep the elbow in a relaxed, not tightly folded, position and avoid prolonged pressure on the palm or wrist. Note whether shaking the hand changes symptoms, and check for grip weakness or dropping objects. A clinician can test sensation, strength, neck movement, and nerve irritation. Treatment depends on the site and may include activity changes, physiotherapy, splinting, or other care; Carpal Tunnel Release is relevant only when that diagnosis is confirmed.

Arrange assessment if numbness persists, keeps returning, spreads, or is accompanied by hand weakness or muscle wasting. Seek urgent care after an injury if the hand is cold, pale, blue, severely painful, or unable to move. Sudden numbness with facial drooping, speech trouble, or weakness of the arm is an emergency.
