Right Groin Pain During Pregnancy: What to Know

Short answer
Right groin pain during pregnancy often reflects changing pelvic load or a strained supporting muscle, but new, severe, or persistent pain needs clinical assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the pain may mean
Pregnancy changes posture, balance, and the way the pelvis carries weight. Pain may be felt where the inner-thigh muscles attach, around the hip crease, or near the pubic area. Turning in bed, walking up stairs, standing on one leg, or separating the legs can make it more noticeable. A hip problem such as Hip Impingement, Hip Labral Tear, or Hip Osteoarthritis can also refer pain toward the groin, although pregnancy-related strain is another possibility. The symptom alone cannot identify its cause.
Note when it began, what movement brings it on, whether it settles with rest, and whether you have back pain, fever, bleeding, urinary symptoms, or abdominal pain. This pattern helps a clinician distinguish a movement-related problem from an obstetric, urinary, abdominal, or other cause.
Practical steps
Reduce movements that clearly provoke the pain without becoming completely inactive. Change position slowly, keep both feet supported when dressing, and use a pillow between your knees when lying on your side. Short, comfortable walks may be preferable to long periods of standing. Ask your maternity clinician which pain relief medicines are suitable for you; do not start or stop medicines based on general advice. A physiotherapist can assess pelvic and hip movement and tailor gentle strengthening or mobility work. Sports Physiotherapy may be relevant when activity demands are high, but pregnancy-specific guidance should shape the plan.
When to seek care
Contact your maternity team promptly for severe or worsening pain, pain after a fall, difficulty bearing weight, vaginal bleeding, fluid loss, fever, faintness, painful urination, marked abdominal pain, or regular tightening. Seek urgent help if you feel very unwell or cannot walk safely. Even without these warning signs, arrange an assessment if pain persists, repeatedly disrupts sleep, or limits ordinary activities.
Questions for your doctor
Could this pattern come from the hip, pelvic joints, or inner-thigh muscles? Which activities should I modify? What symptoms would require maternity triage? Which pain relief options and exercises are appropriate at my stage of pregnancy?

Questions people ask
Can pregnancy cause pain on only the right side?
Yes. Uneven loading, a preferred sleeping position, or one-sided muscle irritation can make symptoms more noticeable on one side, but persistent pain still deserves assessment.
Should I stop all exercise?
Not necessarily. Reduce painful movements and ask your maternity clinician or physiotherapist to adapt activity safely.
