What should you know about a right breast fibroadenoma?

Fibroadenomas are made from glandular and connective breast tissue. They often feel smooth, firm, and mobile, and may change in size with hormonal shifts. A lump in the right breast is not automatically a fibroadenoma: examination and imaging are used to identify its features. A breast ultrasound can show whether a lump looks solid or fluid-filled and how it relates to nearby tissue. A breast biopsy may be recommended when imaging or examination needs tissue confirmation.

Arrange an appointment for any new breast lump, even when it is not painful. Tell the clinician when you noticed it, whether it changes with your cycle, and whether there is nipple discharge, skin change, or a family history of breast disease. Wear a supportive bra if movement causes discomfort, but avoid repeatedly pressing the lump because this can make the area sore. Keep the imaging and follow-up plan provided to you.

Seek prompt assessment for a lump that grows, becomes fixed, or is accompanied by skin dimpling, nipple inversion, bloody discharge, persistent one-sided pain, redness, warmth, or swelling. Urgent care is appropriate if breast redness comes with fever or you feel acutely unwell. These changes do not prove cancer, but they should not be delayed while waiting for the lump to settle.

Ask whether the lump needs a breast ultrasound, whether a biopsy would clarify the diagnosis, how it will be monitored, and when breast lump excision might be considered.
