Rheumatoid arthritis warning signs

RA often produces inflammation in more than one joint, especially in the hands, wrists, and feet. Finger stiffness, hand swelling, joint pain, joint stiffness, and morning joint stiffness can form a pattern. Symptoms may affect both sides, fluctuate, or gradually make tasks such as opening jars and dressing harder. These signs can also occur with other conditions, so they do not establish a diagnosis by themselves. Fatigue or a general unwell feeling may accompany active inflammation.

Get urgent help for a hot, very painful swollen joint with fever, sudden severe weakness, new neurological symptoms, or difficulty breathing. Seek prompt review for rapidly worsening swelling, inability to use a limb, or symptoms that are stopping ordinary activities. These situations need attention because infection, nerve problems, or another urgent cause may resemble an arthritis flare.
