What should you know about remedy for swollen lips after kissing?

Mild tenderness at the contact area may reflect pressure or irritation. Itching, hives, facial swelling or repeated episodes raise concern for an allergic process such as Angioedema. A blister, crust, ulcer, fever or severe pain suggests a different problem and needs clinical assessment rather than home treatment alone.

Rinse the lips gently with water, apply a cool clean compress and avoid rubbing, biting or applying unfamiliar creams. Note what was eaten, used on the lips or taken as medicine before the swelling began. If a clinician has previously given you an allergy action plan, follow it. Do not share medicines or use someone else's prescription.

Call emergency services immediately for swelling of the tongue or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, wheezing, dizziness, faintness or rapidly spreading hives.
